Electric motor for condenser cooling: technical necessity, specificity, choice

HVAC systems are reliable, but not forever. The failure of the fan motor for cooling the outdoor unit of the air conditioner is a common malfunction. Fancoil Motors offers a wide range of such products - with delivery, installation and all related work.

The principle of operation of condensing coolers

All compressor refrigeration units reduce the temperature in the internal heat exchanger (refrigerant evaporator) by transferring heat to the external environment through the external condenser, where the compressed (and therefore hot) refrigerant vapor loses energy and passes into the liquid phase, condenses, still at high pressure. It decreases sharply (with evaporation and cooling due to the laws of thermodynamics) after throttling at the evaporator inlet. The cycle is repeated. The efficiency of the system directly depends on the cooling rate of the condenser. Therefore, in the external heat exchanger of all units more powerful than domestic ones, forced convection is created by the fan. (You can also significantly increase the efficiency of a home refrigerator with the help of a cooler behind the back wall).

Features of outdoor unit motor

Typically, the shape of the condenser is close to square and involves drawing air in the direction from the heat exchanger to the fan with a flat axial impeller of large diameter (in wall units, most often 40 or 63 cm), which has from 3 to 6 wide silent blades. In more powerful systems, there can be up to 12 narrower and longer saber-shaped blades in a horizontal plane. The electric motor, as a rule, is used low-speed, with adjustable speed and an external rotor, on which the impeller is installed. The stator is attached to a decorative and protective grille. But there are other designs as well. In addition to bearing wear and insulation aging common to all electric motors, the fan in the outdoor unit is exposed to heat and frost, direct contact with snow, dust, fluff, and insects. This, of course, shortens its service life.

Right choice

  1. Despite the unification of mounting dimensions and electrical characteristics characteristic of our time, it is recommended to use only original motors, and not "this one is even better." The supplier must provide any model from any manufacturer.
  2. With the seeming simplicity of replacing the motor in practice, specific tools and skills may be required, work at height is dangerous for non-professionals, and so on. It is better to contact the company that carries out not only the supply, but also the repair itself.
  3. Even a simple regular cleaning of the heat exchanger and the impeller will help to avoid unnecessary repairs, to compensate not only for its cost, but also for the loss of working time. It always pays off to conclude contracts for the constant maintenance of climate equipment.

With Fancoil Motors, all three points are fulfilled.
